Hi everyone. Today I want to mention two movies showing in theatres at the moment. Both are very good movies worth seeing but are very, very different. One is about a group of geniuses who develop conflict within their own circle while creating one of the richest and most successful companies in the world. The other is about a group of idiots who develop conflict by hitting each other in the nuts and spraying shit on one another. If you haven’t worked it out already I’m talking about The Social Network and Jackass 3D. I know you’re probably thinking that it’s weird to compare these two movies. But let’s face it, at their core both movies are about people being dicks.
Social Network if you haven’t heard is about the creation of Facebook. Yeah that’s right, the true story about how Facebook came to be. Yippy, riveting. Joking aside it is a fantastic movie and well worth a look. It focuses on Mark Zuckerberg, a College student who is (ironically) a bit socially inept. He comes up with the concept for Facebook with the help of friends and acquaintances. He then starts cutting people out which of course leads to a sense of betrayal, betrayal leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering (Damn I really wanted to go a week without a Star Wars reference). Suffering in this case manifests itself as hundreds of millions of dollars in law suits. The lesson here is, “just because you’re a smart guy doesn’t mean you can get away with being a total dick”. He also ends up pretty well friendless. Again ironic considering that according to his product even I have several hundred of them. But don’t go feeling too bad for poor Mark, after all Facebook is worth over $33,000,000,000. What a DICK!
So moving on to Jackass 3D. This is the third movie in the Jackass franchise. If you haven’t seen or heard of Jackass before this clip should sum it up for you.[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGRgmrdX4JI]
That’s about as deep as it gets. Essentially it’s a bunch of guys given too much money to do the dumbest things they can think of. Someone will do something gross, dangerous or painful (sometimes all three) then the rest of the group fall over laughing their asses off at their friends misery. A collection of stupid stunts and pranks that prove natural selection is at work in our world today. This movie (if you can even call it that) is not intellectual or thought provoking at all. AND IT’S FREAKIN’ AWESOME! It is damn entertaining and if you’re the type of person who sticks their nose up at this kind of thing, then the immature child in you is dead and that’s just sad. I must say while the stunts are creative just witnessing the guys anticipation can be as interesting. The lesson here is that if you’re friends with anyone willing to shoot you in the testicles with paint balls or drop you in a pit of snakes, it’s time to get new friends. Johnny Knoxville and Co, DICKS!
Well that’s about it. I just want to say sometimes I’m not always the best friend. But I’d like to think that if I had really pissed someone off they would tell me about it before they piss on my face or sue me for millions. Umm, sorry Pierce.
See you next week.

[...] The Social Network – a fantastic movie about something we all use every day, Facebook. And if you don’t use Facebook…. How did you get here? Anyway The Social Network is the true story of how Facebook came to be and just how alliances and friendships can breakdown when you create something that big. It is a really good movie with a great cast, great script and a fantastic director. But I think it’s important to see this because it’s a part of recent history and like I said, we’re all part of it.
