Hello there again and welcome to one of many new game reviews.
We will be covering everything from Pc to Iphone games, so keep a look out for more and more soon.
We start back off with a very new concept, it’s an MMO (Massively Multiplyer Online) game for a mobile device.
Now there has been a few attempts at recreating that World of Warcraft experience on the mobiles but none come that close to the real thing to make it worth playing.
So how does Gameloft’s Order & Chaos Online fair?
Gameloft has made itself known for “quality” ripoff’s when it come to games, there is the Gran Turismo ripoff called GT Racing HD and plenty more.
These ripoff games are actually decent titles in there own right though as well, I don’t know how legal it is but the folks at Gameloft seem to make games that come close or meet the quality of the games they are ripping off.
So as these are mobile titles, that is a very cool thing indeed.
As you can obviously see Order & Chaos Online is a direct ripoff of Activision/Blizzards World of Warcraft for the iPhone/Android devices, but it isn’t alone on the appstore/android market, nope.
There are other games that try and copy the winning formula and fall very short, Pocket Legends is a great example, it’s fun but very very shallow in gameplay.
Order & Chaos Online (or O&CO from now on) is actually a ripper of a ripoff (see what I did there?), it does everything right, even down to the pricing (I’ll get to that).
As you can see from the images, O&CO is a very pretty game for a mobile, even if this was on Wii the graphics are still very acceptable, so for a mobile (Android/iPhone) that’s really something.
The gameplay is your standard affair for an MMO, receive quests by talking to NPC’s and carry out the orders for loot, money or fame.
The interface is actually very nicely done, the touch screen really shines for an MMO and makes the gameplay a breeze, everything from the map to the action buttons are laid out extremely well.
Your action buttons on the bottom right are little circles in a scrolling sphere, you can hit them and then swipe to get another action on screen, this works very well and allows for fast gameplay.
Killing enemy’s is as simple as targeting them by touching them and then touching an action button, pretty simple and fun.
Your kill’s drop loot which can be picked up by simply clicking their shining bodies after battle and selecting what loot to take, just like WoW.
There are towns in the game (Duurrrr) where you can meet other players, trade, duel and interact via text and other means.
Your players just like in WoW are online in real time playing when you do.
Surprisingly there is a lot of people online and playing 24/7 which adds to the fun. Can’t do that quest on your own? you can always rely on the kindness of strangers. (well mostly)
The towns get pretty active, there was at least 30 people in town when I did this review, however as soon as it was time to take screenshot’s they weren’t there, oh well that’s MMO’s for you.
I don’t know what the limit is of players on screen at once but it sure gets busy on screen, of course if you’re playing on an iPad/Android Tab it would be a bigger screen and less crowded.
There is however one major gripe with this game at the moment.
You cannot play with your Android friends if you use an iDevice and visa versa you cannot play with your iDevice friends if you use an Android device, well at least right now.
When I contacted Gameloft about this matter I got;
“Dear Jim,
Gameloft is aware of this matter and our engineers are currently looking into it, there should be an update for this software title within the month or shortly thereafter.”
So all is not lost folks.
Until next time,
James for Breadcrumbs.
Sound: The sound is crisp and vibrant, the music is reminiscent of WoW.
Graphics: For a handheld mobile title, this game pops. The colours are vibrant and warm…. it looks very much like WoW so it’s a tad cartoony but that’s great.
Gameplay: The touch controls are great here, very responsive. The UI is very welcoming to the n00best of players.
Longevity: The game like all MMO’s has a ton too do, with more updates all the time. There are also 3 expansion packs planned right now with more considered.
Pricing: Right now on the Android/iPhone appstore’s the game is about $9AUD, this entitles you to 3 months gametime. Extra time can be purchased in game and is about $2AUD for 2 months.
This is actually a really good pricing point and I hope it stays.
