Ever blamed the internet for your lack of productivity? I feel you. Often I get distracted by that little browser icon on the bottom of my screen, feeling the need to feed myself with status updates such as “TFIF” or “beach!” (jesus why do i go on facebook..) or learning what my favourite celebrities are doing (why!?).  It’s a very frustrating thing when the machine you need to do most if not all of your work is the very same when you want to kill time with.  I decided to do something about this.

I found a cool and apparently popular extension for Google Chrome (if you’re not on Chrome, get on it) called StayFocusd.  What it does is after installation a little blue icon will appear on the top of your browser. Inside it you can customise sites you think is a waste of time, give yourself an allowance of how many minutes you could use those sites per day and really discipline yourself.

If that’s not enough, since going into the option panel and extending your allowance is pretty darn easy.. StayFocusd has a little function called ‘The Nuclear Option’.  Essentially nuking your browser for a period of time. Meaning you cannot access any site for the predetermined amount of time. Including if your excuse is “I need to be onling for work!!” too bad mo-fo!

My disillusioned mind hopes that this will stop my procrastinating habit. (Time spent procrastinating by writing this article.. 10 minutes..)
