As we all know by now, Arnold Schwarzenegger, the governor of California has announced that he is finishing his political career and returning to film. I can’t be stuffed typing Arnold Schwarzenegger so from here on out he’ll be referred to as Arnie. When I was a kid first getting into action movies with my primary school friends he was probably my favorite actor. He was the Terminator, Commando and Conan, he was the star of Predator and True Lies. He was just so cool. No body could throw a punch, fire a gun or whip out a one liner quite like he could. But lets face it Arnie doesn’t have much range. We always loved him most when he was playing the over the top muscle bound action hero with cheesy dialogue and the crazy action cliches like jumping away from an explosion or snapping peoples necks. We’ve seen him delve into the comedy and even family films and they didn’t exactly turn out well. So what are we going to see him try next? Apparently comics and animation as he and Stan Lee team up to bring you the comic series, The Governator. I shit you not this is an actual thing. I can’t even begin to describe how ridiculous this is so let me show you:

Yyyyyeah, that’s right, it’s a superhero based on Arnie’s real life. He will be fighting a force known as The G.I.R.L.I.E Men… yep. Now using the L from the end of the National Bank sign as a hockey stick to launch an explosive into a giant robot does seem like an Arnie thing to do, but it’s just not the same. I get that its a parody of his own career but everyone has already been doing that for a decade now. Plus people don’t care about his acting let alone his voice acting, we all know that when you see a Schwarzenegger movie, you see it for him. But with this project you don’t get to see Arnie you get to see a cartoon and I think his bad acting will become more obvious. This is a stupid idea but is it stupid enough to work?

I’d love to see the old Arnie come back but lets face it he is 64 years old now. If we do see him back in films I doubt that we’ll see him jumping away from explosions or in brutal fist fights. Unfortunately I think this former Austrian body builder is well passed his prime and as much as I’d love to see him in another Predator or True Lies I can’t see him being up for doing anything too physical. I guess he could try political thrillers or dramas, but like I said, his range is fairly limited. He’s a unique character in that he can’t act that well but he has great screen presence. I just don’t know if he has still got it, did you see him in The Expendables? It was tragic just watching him walk like an old man. But I do love him and I hope he proves me wrong.
