This week I’m going to talk about a very special movie release, the entire Star Wars Saga on Blu-Ray. As a lifetime Star Wars fan I was excited about the classic movies I grew up with being remastered in High Definition. However there is some debate as to whether or not this is what we will be getting to take home with us. Why? Because once again George Lucas and his team have dived back into the original films once more to fuck around. [..]

To me it looks like the genre of the Western is trying to make a come back. We had True Grit earlier this year and the video game Red Dead Redemption was a huge hit last year. Not to mention Cowboys and Aliens out last week. There were even plans by Disney to bring The Lone Ranger to the big screen with Johnny Depp. However it looks like Disney has pulled the plug on the production as they could not afford the films two hundred million dollar budget. Why the hell would a western need so much money? Beats me, but it must have something to do with the CGI werewolves the heroes would be fighting. Seriously! [..]

We have had a lot of Superhero movies over the last couple of years. It has been a pleasant surprise that a lot of these so called “comic book” movies have been treated with the respect given to other literary material. We have two great Batman movies from DC and a whole bunch of Marvel characters popping up with their own quality features. Now we have DC’s first (Jonah Hex doesn’t count) real big follow up to The Dark Knight, Green Lantern. [..]

Well it has been a pretty good year for movies all round and especially the American summer blockbuster.
